X is a goose foot species crop which was considered to be sacred by the Incas and they referred it as "Mother of all grains". It is cultivated mainly in Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador along the Andes. The Spanish conquistadors suppressed its cultivation during the Spanish conquest of South America and termed it as "Food for Indians". United Nations declared 2013 as the International Year of X.
